Own Your Thoughts: Daily habits that help you build a healthier mindset

“The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts” - Marcus Aurelius

Thought is the process of thinking about or considering something, or someone’s opinions or ideas. As humans, we think every day, and our actions are shaped by our thoughts. When we can’t control our thoughts, they can negatively affect our mood, making an entire day, or even a whole week, feel ruined. All behaviors are made up of the component ‘thinking’. Right thinking helps to own your thoughts or choices, to stay in the present, to make the right choices and to set realistic goals.

Owning your thoughts means taking responsibility for your actions and choices. We repeatedly use thinking patterns that we have developed because they have worked for us. When we don’t know what to do, we fall back on those familiar patterns. These patterns are not permanent. We can change them, question them and replace them. Focus on the things you can control. Have an optimistic attitude toward every situation. Recognize the things that trigger you and change the way you deal with or think about them. Respond to challenges rather than hiding from them.

There are times when we blame our circumstances or other people for our sadness and failures. It’s natural to focus on the things happening around us, especially when life feels difficult. We often give more importance to external factors, things we have little or no control over. This way of thinking gradually drains our energy. It leaves us feeling hopeless and helpless, as if we have no control over our lives or the direction they’re taking. Feeling this way is part of being human, and it’s okay. It’s okay to fail. It’s okay to feel sad, to be misunderstood, or to face rejection. These experiences, as painful as they may be, often become our greatest teachers. They help us understand ourselves more deeply, learn about others, and give us the opportunity to observe how we respond to life’s challenges. In many ways, our growth begins not by avoiding difficult moments, but by becoming aware of our thoughts and how we move through them. Therefore, by owning our thoughts, we become more responsible individuals and contribute positively to the people around us.
