World Mental Health Day 2022: Every year on October 10, World Mental Health Day is marked. In 1992, the World Federation for Mental Health began observing the day. Raising awareness of mental health concerns and mobilizing support for mental health are the goals of World Mental Health Day.

The World Health Organisation’s (WHO) official website states that “The Day gives a chance for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to discuss their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.”

History of World Mental Health Day

Mental health problems have been socially stigmatized. Nobody wanted to discuss it. Therefore, members would hide if someone in the family had a mental health illness.

World Mental Health Day was established to bring attention to these problems and to encourage people to recognize mental diseases as any other physical disease. People are informed about mental health and its related issues through this event, which also raised awareness of this social stigma. The World Federation for Mental Health started the first Mental Health Day event on October 10, 1992. (WFMH), a global mental health organization with offices in more than 150 nations.

The state of mental health has changed dramatically over time. In actuality, most changes observed around the world are favorable and have improved civilization. Over time, people have developed greater self-awareness and sensitivity to mental health issues. Recently, there have also been changes in the vocabulary used and in how people see those with mental disorders. But there is still much that needs to be altered.

When World Mental Health Day was first established, the organizers were unsure of its exact purpose beyond raising awareness of mental health issues. The WFMH has the potential to significantly alter the situation and raise the standard of mental health care provided worldwide through ongoing global efforts.

This program included a wide range of topics and explored the various factors that affect people and their mental health. Since more people are knowledgeable and aware of these conditions today than they were ten years ago, the stigma around mental illness is much less strong than before.
