Social media intake has increased a lot these days and it is significantly impacting an individual’s health, focus, patience and other areas of life.
So, it’s high time to take charge of oneself and take certain actions to not get trapped.
Here are some reasons of why it is important to do so;
For our well being –
It is very important for our well being to keep ourselves away from social media for some time. Okay, let’s just take one instance, don’t you find yourself filled with so many things when you are using social media platforms, hundreds of messages in a group, few messages on personal chat and when you shut down your net all around is silence. Don’t you feel relaxed?
Stop comparing –
I think this is the high time to stop comparing ourselves to anyone in this world. Why do we always end up comparing ourselves in beauty, intelligence, height, or color? We saw some perfect pictures that made us feel so. Instead of feeling bad about what you have not, appreciate what you have. You all are amazing personalities. You’ll never find another like you.
Spend time with nature –
It is not just being there but being there physically and mentally. Observe a few things around you and feel it. Feel the peace and see the greenery around you. If you have a park nearby, spend some time there or you can carry your book to read. You can do some exercise also.
Quality time with family –
Turn off your phone for some time. Sit with your family and discuss some happy and memorable moments with them. Nothing is better than this. We are so busy with our schedule and giving our time to social media, meals, friends and sleep. That’s it. Where is family time? Give some time to them. They are more than happy to see you there.
How to do social media detox
However there are several ways but sharing some easy- peasy tips with. you all. You are open to add your own if you have any.
Turn off mobile–
We can try to switch off our mobile phone for some hours. You can’t switch off your phone for a long time but at least try to give 2-3 hrs to switch off your phone. And in between this, you can do your college work or something. Remember do not use your phone during working hours.
Delete apps–
Try to have minimum apps. As for our phones, we all have so many apps like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Whatsapp, twitter, telegram, Linkedin. These are common apps that we can find on anyone’s phone easily. So, what we can do is to delete some apps which are of less use instead of logging out. Delete some apps for a week or so.
Break up–
This is what we need to do. Break up with social media platforms. Leave all the past and unrealistic things behind. It’s time to take a small break from social media and need to declutter our mind from unpleasant things. You can start by taking 2-3 days off from such platforms in a week.
Hobbies–
keep yourself busy in your hobby whether it is singing, dancing, sketching, reading, cooking or what you like. Give your ‘phone time’ to ‘me time’ and do what you love to. Spend at least one hour or more if you can. Become the master of what you like. You never get this time back. So, possibly utilizing this time may be fruitful exercise for you.
Exercise–
It’s important to do exercise for keeping ourselves not only physically but mentally healthy too. Do include it in your daily routine. In the morning after waking up, instead of practicing checking our phones, let’s practice some exercise. In this you can include running, cycling, yoga, meditation, or exercise in nature.
Turn off your notification–
Remember there is a difference between turning off the mobile phone and turning off notifications. In this, you have to turn off all the notifications. So that if the phone is on and notification comes, you do not rush to check your phone. For instance, while reading this post if a message arises, you stop right here and hurry to check on whose message is there.
Do not use the phone while–
You need to take care of it utmost. As we all are compelled by ourselves to check messages while eating or doing some work. This is what we all are doing, which we are not supposed to. At least give yourself some time to eat consciously. Conscious eating? What does it mean? It means you have to focus your attention on your food only. While having food taste it, in every bite and enjoy it with your lovely fam. Be mindful of what you are eating.
Lay your phone away–
Keep your phones away from your reach because we have become couch potatoes that we can’t get up to take our phones but would love to be in the same place. Keep your phone off at least 30-45 minutes prior to sleep. Turn off your data. If you want, you can utilize this time, otherwise try to fall asleep or meditate.
